Buddhist Temple Duc Vien

(The Birth of San Jose's Little Saigon District.)

Located closely next to Little Saigon SJ, the Buddhist temple Duc Vien as known as Virtue Fulfilled Buddhist Temple located in San Jose is one of few Buddhist centers in US run by nuns. Founder Venerable Dam Luu (1932-1999) was a long-time member of Sakyadhita and offered her temple for monastic training programs and conferences for Buddhist women. After she passed away on March 26, 1999, and her body was cremated, numerous relics (sarira) in various colors were discovered, signifying a high level of spiritual attainment.

The story of Saint Joseph Church began in 1777 when Mission Santa Clara was founded and the adjacent Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe became the first civil settlement in Alta California.
