Orientation day (03/24/2007) held at Boulder Creek Scout Camp is first easy, fun half-day of the 6-day training course. It's about paperwork processing, welcoming ceremony, introduction of the staff, course overview, course operations "Ticket", Scout's Own Communications, Trading Post, Logistics & Equipment, Course Uniform, and of course having FUN. Japanese Friendship Garden

(The Birth of San Jose's Little Saigon District.)

Located closely next to Little Saigon, the San Jose's Japanese Friendship Garden symbolizes the "Sister City" relationship between Okayama, Japan and San Jose, California. The garden was built in October of 1965. This beautiful garden is based on the design of the world famous Korakuen Park in Okayama, Japan. It covers six acres of manicured landscape, waterfalls, bridges and bonzai plants. Any visitor to this garden can easily spot the colorful Koi meandering throughout the three well placed ponds in the Japanese Friendship Garden.

VLSC's Potato City Council Meeting

(Venturing Leadership Skills Course VLSC-WR3-08-01)

The class is divided into 2 groups, 5 Venturers play the roles of city council members with different styles of leadership: Persuading, Joining, Telling, Consulting, Delegating and the audience that will observe the meeting, then later identify each council member with the distinctive leadership styles. Their experiences became more meaningful and effective after class reflection. This 3rd module of Synergism "Potato City Council" presented by Venturing Advancement Chair, Ken Bowers, concluded the training course. Lot of energies, participation with engaging excellent discussions are observed.

Receiving gift of happiness after doing a good turn

With so many scouts on hand, the flag planting moved quickly under an overcast sky. Before two hours had passed, the cemetery was a fluttering sea of red, white and blue. Scout leader Tony Tran (WE3-31-07 Beaver) and his troop express their happiness after pay respect to the fallen and help other people.

Wood Badge is Scouting's premier training course. Baden-Powell designed it so that Scouters could learn, in as practical a way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting. It is first and foremost, learning by doing. The members of the course are formed into patrols and these into a troop. The entire troop lives in the out-of-doors for a week, camping, cooking their own meals, and practicing Scout skills.

Philmont benefactor Waite Phillips' summer home, the Villa Philmonte, is open each day for tours. Children must be accompanied by parents or group leaders. Most family program groups schedule a Villa tour, and special tours are available for conference members at Philmont Training Center.

Mountain Men Kodiak Shake Down at Greenward

(Mountain Men/Women Trekking Kodiak at Philmont)

Mountain Men and Mountain Women treks are mentally and physically challenging backpacking expeditions that provide an opportunity to experience Philmont's rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The crews hike 30-40 miles into the backcountry. The Mountain Trek progam is for young men and women who are 14 years old, but not yet 21. Seen on this panorama are Mountain Trek Kodiak groups consists 7 Venturers/Sea Scouts with 4 adult leaders. The MM2 trekking expedition was led by Venturing advisors Rick & Debbie Kagawa, Scout Rangers Matt Carpenter, Katie Hogan. The participating Venturers and Sea Scouts came to Philmont from all over the country.

Sea Scout Ships 22 &100 at Aquatic Park

(Around San Francisco)

Here panographed the historical Scout Deck of BSA Sea Scout Ships 22 & 100 based in the heart of San Francisco Aquatic Park. S.S.S. Corsair (22) and S.S.S. Viking (100) are chartered units in the Sea Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America located in the San Francisco Bay Area Council. More information on the national Sea Scouting program can be found on the Sea Scouts home page. Corsair and Viking are sponsored by the San Francisco Bar Pilots Association. Corsair and Viking are Sailing Whaleboats--30', wooden, open boats powered by sails and oars, ketch and cutter rigged, respectively. They were constructed by the Navy in the 1930's, and donated to the San Francisco Sea Scouts during World War II. Their programs each have been running continuously in San Francisco for over sixty years. Corsair is crewed by male youth, and Viking by female youth.
