In contrast to the unflattering portrait of a backwater painted by CCR vocalist John Fogerty in 1969, this pleasantly compact city of 61,000 is at the center of an emerging wine country, with beautiful downtown, vineyards, tasting rooms, fine restaurants. Lodi has become one of the state's leading producers of Merlot, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a tourist destination. Today, Lodi residents are fond of saying people are stuck "on", not "in" their town.
